2008 Challenge Coins A coin was presented to all members of the class of '08 at a Dinner held in April 2008. This is an exquisite 1 1/2" challenge coin that can be easily carried in a pocket. This was our third annual presentation to the graduating midshipmen and it is now a USMMA tradition. A Challenge coin has a lot of history. During World War I, American volunteers from all parts of the country filled the newly formed flying squadrons. A Challenge coin saved an officers life. Hence, the tradition of "Coin Check" was developed. Our Club has also commissioned a special parents, alumni and student 2008 Commemorative Challenge Coin.
